As the Senior Wealth Advisor of LeRoy Wealth Management Group, IPC Securities, Sonia leads families to achieve financial peace of mind and align their money with their life values.
With an honours degree in economics from Carleton University, Sonia followed in her grandmother’s footsteps, pursuing her fascination with the power of money to offer investment advice. With over 30 years of financial planning experience and expertise in socially responsible investing, Sonia is passionate about leading her clients to invest with purpose and impact even beyond personal financial planning objectives, to lever their power as asset owners to influence companies and the world for the better. A Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and a Registered Financial Planner (RFP), Sonia is also a member of the Responsible Investment Association and holds the Responsible Investment Specialist designation (RIS). Sonia is the 2022 Wealth Professionals (WP) Advisor of the Year – Responsible Investments. She was also a 2020 WP Advisor of the Year - Responsible Investments and a 2021 WP Awards finalist in the categories of Advisor of the Year – Responsible Investments and Financial Literacy Champion.
Dedicated to helping people overcome obstacles and realize their potential, Sonia gives her time, money, and expertise to many causes, both at home and abroad. Sonia has travelled to Senegal with her family nearly two dozen times over the past decade to volunteer with forced begging street children. At home, Sonia volunteers with Kids Kicking Cancer as a martial arts therapist to bring power, peace and purpose to vulnerable children. Sonia also serves on the board of the Rev. C.F. Johnston Foundation, supporting disadvantaged children in sub-Saharan Africa. As a member of Women for Mental Health, Sonia has long been an advocate for mental health awareness. In the past, Sonia has served on the boards of the investment sub-committee for the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa and the Ottawa chapter of the Canadian Association of Financial Planners. Sonia was the 2019 winner of the Wealth Professionals Award for Excellence in Philanthropy and Community Service, and the 2018 recipient of the IPC Cares Award for Philanthropy and Community Service. Sonia was also a 2020 finalist of the Wealth Professionals Edward Jones Award for Excellence in Philanthropy and Community Service.
Sonia lives in Ottawa with her husband and their two dogs. Their two children are away at university, and are also involved with LeRoy Wealth Management Group and the family’s charitable endeavours. As a third-degree karate black belt, Sonia is an avid martial arts practitioner and referee. Sonia’s family hobby (while not volunteering in Africa or practicing karate) is making the best maple syrup in Ontario at her family cottage in the Haliburton Highlands.
